Description
This acclaimed textbook gives a contemporary account of the law of the sea. It provides a critical overview of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea including analysis of the bilateral, regional and global agreements that form the bedrock of the subject.

The book explores the rules and institutions established by the Convention and its achievements in their historical and contemporary context. It sheds light on key areas of the law of the sea including:
- foundations and sources of the law
- nature and extent of the maritime zones
- delimitation of overlapping maritime boundaries
- navigational rights and freedoms
- military activities at sea
- marine resource and conservation issues such as fisheries, marine environmental protection and dispute settlement
